Late one night a distraught young woman on the run begs Reverend Lucian Shaw for help, claiming she has been kidnapped and held against her will at Ravenswood, a remote and heavily guarded country house.

When she is later found dead in suspicious circumstances, Shaw enlists the help of Chief Inspector Ludd of the Suffolk Constabulary to investigate.

Ludd, however, comes up against a wall of silence and is soon ordered off the case. Somebody—somebody with power and influence—does not want anyone to know what goes on inside Ravenswood.

But Shaw is determined to find out, putting not only his life, but his very soul in peril.

This affectionate tribute to Golden Age crime fiction will appeal to fans of mystery and thriller writers such as Dornford Yates, 'Sapper' and John Buchan.
