The Ultimate Build-up

I love that James and Harper knew as soon as they met that there was something between them. They just couldn't stand to separate and stayed out all night just to get to know one another. I cannot wait to see how it plays out when the The Unwilling Bride comes out!!

Wow! Such chemistry

What a fantastic start to a series.
This is the prequel to The Unwilling Bride and is the first encounter between Harper and James and the evening that changes their lives.
Home from an assignment, James a disillusioned Marine with a dark past meets his sister’s gorgeous best friend Harper.
There is an instant connection between them both with chemistry that’s off the charts.
Nothing can come of it though due to Harper’s friendship with his sister.
The push and pull between the two over the time they have together that night, has me eagerly awaiting their full story.
A really great read.
I listened to the audiobook of this story which was narrated in duet by Shane East and Evelyn Rose.
Shane’s performance is amazing as he portrays James perfectly and Evelyn’s performance is beautiful playing Harper’s role.
I thoroughly enjoyed this short story and my time listening along.
Thank you L Steele for the opportunity to read and listen to this entertaining prequel.

What really elevated this novella for me, though, was the narration. Evelyn Rose and Shane East deliver a standout performance that brings both characters vividly to life. Evelyn Rose captures Harper’s vulnerability and growing confidence beautifully, while Shane East embodies James’s intensity, restraint, and protective edge perfectly.

Together, they create a palpable chemistry that enhances every interaction—those quiet, tension-filled moments feel even more charged through their delivery. The emotional nuances, pacing, and character distinction made it easy to get completely immersed in the story.

Even as a prequel, this left me fully invested and, honestly, wanting more of James and Harper. If you love slow-burn, emotionally intense romance, this audiobook is absolutely worth the listen for the narration alone.
