SOMEONE'S SET HIM UP

SOMEONE'S GOING TO DIE

When Victor is arrested for a murder that, for once, he didn't commit, escape must surely be inevitable for a hitman of his ferocity.

Yet someone wants Victor put away, and he finds himself behind bars, incarcerated by police who have no idea of the monster they are dealing with and have, apparently, tamed.

Quickly, however, his fellow the prisoners realize that he's not trapped in there with them: they are in a cage, with the most dangerous of enemies. And Victor has a traitor to find.

I liked Traitor better than book 9. It had more action, suspense, and deceit than the previous book. The book starts off with 5-star action. There are a few places where the story drags a little due to being overly descriptive. Although Victor has some moments of inner reflection, thankfully not as much as book 9.

******SPOILER BELOW*************

The ending was not what I expected. I was surprised he would offer to work for Maxim and more surprised Maxim would accept the offer. Obviously, it was the set up for the next book, Blood Debt. At the end I understood why Victor wanted to talk with Phoenix face to face, but don’t understand why he didn’t just kill her. I didn’t really buy into her just killing herself. I was also a little unclear at the end if Victor thought Phoenix had set him up to be killed or just used him as bait to see if Salome was trying to take her down. I did think there were too many side characters which made it harder to keep up with in the audiobook. I am curious, though, to see if the Boatman shows up in the next book.

Overall, 4.5 stars. I rounded up because it reminded me of Russian nesting dolls. Every time one was opened there would be another one waiting.

It's Just Business

this is one of the best Victor the assassin books yet, Tom is one of the few writers that are getting better with each book. sit in these little group think groups, and think that all those suggestions are going to make them better writers the trouble is I would say a good half this particular book is so good, the story and the depth of the story are just bitchin. you understand pretty much who every character in the book is, and by who I mean who they are as a human. even though many characters are not as integral to the book, to spend a whole lot of time in character development. However Tom is too skilled for that worry, he spends the appropriate amount of time for each character, but he gets all the information you need to understand who that character is in that time, regardless of how short it is, impressive, definitely a quality story, There are so many different nuances in this story. For example, Victor's relationship with Phoenix breaks Victor's own rules that he never breaks, however in the end now that you have all the information, does it really?
This is a very clever book, and if you like any of the other Victor the assassin books, this one, you will love. Even if you haven't read or listened to any of the others, you get everything you need to make the book stand alone for you. Now saying that, I do highly recommend you read his books from the beginning, cuz he really does delve a lot in who Victor is, and how Victor changed, or changes, or doesn't. it's really compelling.
Also the narrator does a great job! Snyder is one of my favorite narrators. He doesnt take it too far, by injecting the same over emotion in every single sentence. instead of being irritated at the narrator, while you're listening to a good book, and taking the enjoyment out of the story,
A good one like this one, makes it so that you can enjoy the story, in fact his narration adds to it.

what a great book, this is a top-notch book for this genre.

It’s been years since the new Victor audiobooks were available in the US. Three more to go before we’re fully caught up, and I can’t wait!

Worth the wait!
