Haunted by the disappearance of his mother when he was eight years old, detective Hud Matthews begins his own investigation to find out what really happened so many years before. When a rare murder occurs in the lakeside community, Hud’s veteran skills are called upon to capture the killer. Pulled deep into the threads of the community with ties to the past, Hud quickly becomes a target, not only of the killer, but of those who wish the past to be left alone. As Hud gets closer to discovering the truth about the crimes, he has to face a choice of enforcing the law, or stepping outside of it to make sure that his version of justice is served.

Good mystery; obviously written by a man (gratuitous sex); ending is a bit open ended. The narrator did not make much distinction between different character’s voices.

Muddy Waters

The narrator has one of the sexiest voices I've ever heard, but unfortunately there is very little distinction between characters which makes following the story difficult. I feel that there is too much pointless fillers describing unnecessary details when that time could have been used to strengthen the story. I really didn't want to continue this book but I struggled on in hope that there would be a great ending. I was left disappointed. I should have read this book instead of listening to the audio version, maybe it would have worked out better.
