Free and fair elections rarely come easily — especially in countries with long histories of political upheaval. This month Bangladesh held a vote that, while not without incidents of violence, was significantly more peaceful and orderly than many comparable political transitions in recent history. When Bangladesh's government fell to an uprising in August of 2024, it was possible to imagine a much worse result.
