Not really promises to a baby

The book begins with promises to a baby, but by the time we get to the 30's the book becomes more of a random assortment of musings and affirmations, along with loosely-corresponding Chopra family anecdotes and fables.

Because of the hodgepodge nature of the "promises", I didn't take much away from the book, neither in terms of child rearing or life in general. By the end I was counting down as the author was counting up.

As far as the audio edition is concerned, this book illustrates why many authors should not read their own works. The narration is very flat.

Inspiring thoughts for Mothers

I greatly enjoyed Mallika Chopra's promises to her baby and the stories and explanations that she shared to illuminate each promise. For some promises she shared stories from her life and for others she shared parables or explanations. As a first-time mother, I found her promises inspiring and felt this book helped deepen my connection to my newborn baby. The promises format makes it ideal listening during a commute. I've listened to it twice now and each time gained new insights. I plan to get this book for some of my friends who are also new mothers.
