There is a huge industry built around the subject of "Generational Curse" that continues to hold the New Testament Believer in bondage. The basic tenant of this teaching say that, "The reason why you are not financially successful or able to have children or in some kind of recurring problem is that God is punishing you for the sins your parents or great-grandparents committed."

The situation is worsened by the failure of most believers in their personal obligation to search out the scriptures so that they can rightly divide it like the Bereans.

One of the key scriptures in defence of those who advocate generational curses is found in Exodus 20:5-6 (Deuteronomy 5:9) which says:

5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
