Jenny Maddox leaned against the hood of the matte-black Suburban, eyes locked on the gathering mass of dark clouds bruising the western horizon. The wind had shifted. Just a whisper now, but one with teeth. It brushed across her face like a warning. Most people would've taken it as a cue to head for the basement. Jenny? She called it a siren song.
Behind her, the mobile Doppler radar unit beeped in steady intervals. On the roof of their secondary vehicle—nicknamed The Jackrabbit, a lifted, reinforced Jeep with steel plating and high-torque tires—Joslyn knelt, checking the wind anemometer. Her long braid flapped like a flag in the wind.
Inside the Suburban, Jaime was already tweaking data projections on her laptop, overlaying radar models with GPS coordinates and predictive AI storm paths. She had a brow permanently furrowed in curiosity, intensity, or both.
And Jericho?
Jericho sat quietly on the bumper of the Jackrabbit, arms crossed, a fortress behind reflective aviator glasses. Silent. Calculating. Calm. Always calm—until it wasn’t time to be.
