Some children scream.
Maya Sanders didn’t.

At just seven years old, Maya is returned to a home filled with shadows—and when the system checks the boxes, she says nothing.
Not because she’s okay.
Because she knows silence is safer.

When Maya is placed with Janine Thompkins, a foster mother who sees beyond behavior, a quiet war begins—not just for custody, but for truth.
As Janine uncovers what Maya cannot say, she faces a system designed to measure compliance, not pain.

A devastating, lyrical novel about the cost of being unheard—and the quiet revolution it takes to be free.

Some stories don’t scream. They stay.

I work with families that have had their children removed and this book hit home pretty hard. I’ve seen it and it is very heartbreaking because there’s nothing that I can do to change the outcome in my line of work. I am not allowed to advocate just document and sometimes they don’t read what I document.

Too many children in the system get lost between the cracks

I hated the narration. The story was too perfect and and oversimplification of a foster care experience.

Cute short story
