Life held little joy for Celia Murray. Forced by poverty to leave her aunt, who had been her only source of love and warmth, Celia goes to the city to find a job. There she tries to make the best of her new home: a dreary boarding house.

Then everything changes! Celia receives an unexpected inheritance and sets about to make her dreams come true. She sends for her Aunt Hannah, and together they work a miraculous transformation on the old boarding house, making it into a place of warmth and laughter. Yet Celia struggles with a sense that there is something—or someone—missing.

Enter handsome Horace Stafford, minister of the mission chapel. At first Celia believes this is a man whose faith and compassion matches her own. But when a terrible misunderstanding comes between them, will Celia ever be able to confess, even to Horace, the deepest desire of her heart?

As for me there are too much Bible topics. I would evaluate this story as good, clean, intelligent one. There is no astonishing performance, the scenario develops simply and expectedly, no sudden, impressive switch.

Good story but no more

Originally published in 1900 by Grace Livingston Hill and recorded in this century, the book has a timeless message of love for God and others shown in selfless service. It's a story of a young girl who depends on God for her needs and learns that He never fails. Cecilia is desperately poor living in a horrible boarding house. But the unimaginable happens and she gets an inheritance. How she uses it to help others and is rewarded 100 times over is the bulk of the book. How she learns hard lessons balances the story with shadows that make the blessing times show even brighter. There are a lot of Bible verses and some Christian poems and hymns read in appropriate places. And there is sweet romance, and a bit of humor too.
I guarantee a happy lump in your throat and glistening eyes as you listen to this sweet story packed with the gospel message.
I totally loved it.

A Heartwarming Christian novel

I hesitated in listening to this story. It was exactly what I needed when I needed it. A strong Christian theme. Opening the hearts of those that have faced challenges in their lives and their ability to turn to God and overcome adversity. I strongly recommend it.
