Rangers aren’t born, they’re forged.

Never has this been more true for Asher, who must train a new ranger…or be the one to hunt him down. Surviving an encounter with a Werewolf has changed Russell Maybury’s life forever. If he is to salvage anything, he must craft a new life using his abilities to do good. Should he stray, he will answer to Asher.

Learning to fight monsters is all the more difficult when the monsters are the ones hunting you. In his possession, Russell holds an artifact of great significance, a relic central to a shadow war waged for centuries untold. On the one side, the Werewolves bring their claws. On the other, the Vorska, blood fiends who know only the night, bring their fangs.

In over his head, Asher must navigate a war of monsters and the machinations of ancient mages if he is to survive. And should he survive, there is still the Assassin that dwells within, a monster of his own making, that fights for supremacy.

One way or another, the ranger is going to bleed.

From his original stories to this spin off series this author has captivated me. All worth your time and coin. For this particular book I give 4 stars. The beginning chapters seemed to lack....... passion, personality? I felt the author was going to "phone it in" or had maybe lost interest himself in this world. But, I'm happy to say the story and characters did come to life fairly quickly. There were multiple fights which of course were similar in action. After thinking on it though it may be because the cast of characters/species is smaller than most of his other books.
Steve Brand was excellent as usual. Again, WELL WORTH the TIME and COIN!!

Amazing world

Love Steven Brand’s narration for the series.

Enjoyed the plot line, even though some of the fighting seemed unrealistic.

Love this series and the characters!! The author always includes so much but ties it up nicely without making a cliffhanger.

Always a wonderful listen!

I am a huge fan of the whole series, but this one takes the cake. Even if I had never heard the Echoes Saga, or the Ranger Chronicles, this one novel could stand alone as one of my favorite fantasy stories. For long time fans of Asher, this will satisfy and be a perfect lead into the Echoes books!
If you’re a fan of great action, great fantasy and a great hero, don’t hesitate to pick this one up!!

Another exciting chapter for Asher!
