Germany, 1926. When Richard and Paula meet in bustling, cosmopolitan Hamburg, everything feels possible. They fall in love, marry and are soon blessed with twins, a beautiful boy and girl. When Richard qualifies as a psychiatrist, life ahead looks bright. Their only sadness is that their son, Georg, was born deaf, although with his family to protect him they’re sure he’ll be okay.

But happiness turns to horror when the Nazis seize power and begin forcing doctors to euthanise anyone the regime deems imperfect. Suddenly, Richard is falsifying medical records to save his patients - and hiding Georg, whose deafness now makes him a target for the authorities.

With his family plunged into darkness and his son’s life in his hands, can Richard find the strength he needs to keep his family together and evade the world’s most merciless regime?

The story is good but the narration is so bad! It was as if it was being read by a professor reading a bad thesis.

Horrible narration

I loved how well the author mixed fiction and historical facts to tell this story

Beautiful Story, Great Narration

Hard to listen to this book. Narrator voice was like listening to a documentary with no voice inflection. Could have been good but ruined by that.

Terrible narration

This is either a joke, COMPLETELY destroyed in translation or written by a 10 yr old..All 3 apply. How did this ever get published? The final straw is the narration. Beyond horrible. I struggled thru2 chapters, fell asleep, then awoke in chapter 9. The dialog was so juvenile (ppl on a beach) I truly thought I’d gone into a satire. There’s no way an adult could give this any stars, period. Get it for a laugh but for god’s sake don’t waste a credit!!

Is this for real?
