Fleeing a troubled past, Sarah Faust has found the perfect place to begin a new life. Tucked away on a charming side street and surrounded by lush grounds, the neglected 300-year-old townhouse in the port city of Charleston offers a refuge and a place to start over. But all is not as it seems at Five Rue Lane, and she soon finds that her new house harbors something that has been there for a very long time. Something that refuses to stay buried. In A Haunting, L. I. Albemont brings us parallel tales of old and modern horror, weaving colonial era events into a modern ghost story you won't soon forget.

Sara was in the court to hear the sentencing of her husband Shawn Faust. He had been found guilty of defrauding the Teachers and Fire Men's Association leaving them with no pensions upon retirement. Sara had worked three years for a small property development company. Her boss had called her in and suggested a leave of absence casting no shadow of a doubt on her participation and her innocence. She accepted his offer and severance pay. Shawn had received twenty right years in confinement. She had stood beside him throughout his trail even though she learned he had been seeing another woman. She (Kellie) had turned states evidence in Shawn in receipt of amunity and was free. Sarah knew it was time to sell out and leave town for a fresh start. She moved further down the East Cost to Charleston, S. C. She began hunting for a house to restart her life. She had looked at several houses when her realtor show her a two story Victorian house which looked in need of much attention. It was almost hidden surrounded by many trees, shurbs, vines and brush. He said it needs a little work both outside and inside. Are you ready for a tour inside? Sarah agreed and they went in. He said he was told the house dated back to the Revolutionary War. Well Sara bought the house on Rue Lane because she could get it for a price she couldn't turn down. Sara began the renovation of the old plantation a little at a time as she could it. She needed a job an had filled out on line resumes, but no call yet. She began exploring the premises both outside and inside. Sarah saw much repair was needed outdide, but she was eager to start inside first. Meeting the neighbor's brought up a lot of stories which told of paranormal activities in her house. She figured all houses that old had to have some history and decided she would check it out. Sarah was determined to find out the history with her new home so she visited the library and Court House early the next day. She was told by both the house was considered haunted and no one had lived there for quiet awhile because of that. Sara did not believe in ghost so she remained in her new house and continued to renovate to make it once again a beautiful place and her home. She learned that the plantation had been occupied in the mid seventeenth century by a woman named Elizabeth Grahm that the town suspected was a witch. After a few days and nothing had happened. Sara continued her renovations without worry, but that didn't continue for long. Strange occurrences began out of the ordinary which got her attention. Will this indeed be a beautiful new Victorian home for her to resettle in or was there something more sinister going on? Grab this book by L. I. Abelmont and listen. The Narrator Schnaubelt does a nice job. In my opinion this is a well written story that will keep your intrest. I recommend it for teens and above.

Wow. This story was actually very nostalgic for me in some ways. It feels like a true classic suspense interwoven with historical fiction and paranormal occult themes that just sing together. Flashbacks can get pretty annoying and confusing at times, but the way this author wove the present timeline with information from the past essential to the plot made it feel like a black and white private investigation type of narration. And I am honestly kind of shocked. Without any spoilers, let’s be clear. I expected one of the respectable pillars of the community to turn up evil but the characters that turned on her left me in shockwaves! My only real problem is it almost felt anticlimactic for such a betrayal, but in a way it also felt like Justice being leveled?

(Spoiler alert!) To be willing to kill someone for power over something you so clearly don’t understand and then immediately be snuffed out by that same powerful being so nonchalantly was almost the definition of Poetic Justice! And the epilogue with the whole cycle coming back around for some other poor soul was just the perfect cherry on top of one of my favorite type of horror novels. Chef’s Kiss!

If you are not a slow burn suspense type with an appreciation for historical and paranormal dramas, this might not be for you, but I still recommend highly to all my old school ghost story lovers!

Chilling!
