Jack Lester has to find a bride....

But where can he find the perfect woman? She has to be attractive, kind, a good conversationalist...and most important, she has to accept him as he is: devilishly handsome, charming, and, as far as anyone knows, poor as a church mouse! If London society discovers his hidden wealth, he'll never find the right wife.

Jack's heart races when he first lays eyes on Sophie Winterton. She is everything he desires - and more - but he is caught in his own trap. Believing that Jack needs to marry into wealth, Sophie rejects all his advances, certain he would never marry a poor girl like her.

As they play out a game of cat and mouse, can Jack convince her that she is the woman he wants - and that he is the husband she deserves?

This is one of Stephanie Laurens books that is clearly driven by something other than sex scenes.
Well done, enchanting even. With a sub-plot as enjoyable as the main. Characters you can visualize and get to know... it's a Happy Ever After Romance to fall in love with.
I've listened to all of the Cynster books and numerous other's as well.... As one of the more tame stories I found it to still be nearly perfect.

NARRATOR : Elizabeth Jasicki is becoming one of my favorites. Her performance, with the exception of a couple mispronounciations, was flawless. From cadence and tempo to the individuality of each character she delivered masterfully.

CREDITWORTHY? : YES!

HEAT FACTOR: Very low, non-existent even. But that in no way detracts from this book!

One of my favorites.

I love Stephanie Laurens but I can’t decide if it was the narration that made this book so boring. I could handle the male voices they were like little children.

Terrible narration

I’m starting to detect a trend here in this series of regency novels: boy meets girl, misunderstanding ensues, neither one of them will talk it out they just go on and on perpetuating the misunderstanding, finally something happens and they work it out. I get a little impatient with that, would like a little more meat like in her later books. Had to fast forward in a couple of places, don’t think I missed much. I don’t regret the time spent, it was a good diversion, and it was included in the romance package.
The narrator isn’t terrible, but she just can’t do men’s voices. In fact with some of the men, she doesn’t even try.

Nice bit of fluff

As long as the plot & story is decent, I usually don't have a problem with the narrator, and I especially like Stephanie Laurens' romances. However, this audio was quite different! Jasicki has a nice voice for a woman, but her male voices are very irritating! I hung in there for the whole first half because the story was intriguing and I really wanted to follow the relationship between the main characters. However, Jack's voice was so unmanly that I was distracted from the romance and had to abandon it!!! That's very frustrating, since that's the whole reason why I bought the audio version! It would be much better with another narrator.

Good story, but distracting narration!

This narrator should not read these books. She's dull, a very poor actor and the fact that she pronounced "Ton" as ton as in a measure of weight, grated on my nerves ever time she said it. Most British narrators pronounce the word with a French accent.

I forced myself to finish it because I enjoyed Jack Lester's attempts to win the lady of his dreams. If I see Elizabeth Jasicki's name again, I won't purchase the book.

Good story
