In 1951, Carlotta Walls Lanier was one of the nine African-American students to integrate Little Rock High School, and the first to earn a diploma. Here she provides a firsthand account of her experiences - including the bombing that rocked her home, the constant threats she and her classmates faced, and the pressure and bullying her parents endured.

I am reading this book with my 8th-grade class. Students love the audio version because they don't have to read it aloud. However, it takes me 30 minutes to just try to locate the correct chapter. As the chapter as not correct with the bookmark label. For example, chapter 10 is actually chapter 7 being read. it is extremely frustrating.

This book reopened my eyes to see where we were. It saddens me to know that we are still facing the same atrocities, but this book makes reminds me that we shall and will overcome. Thank you Carlotta Walls Lanier and the Little Rock Nine
