Agnes Lockwood is no stranger to crime scenes, but even she is shocked when she finds the body of a man lying on the floor of the ladies' room.

With her partner Alan - the local DCI - they set about tracking the murderer. This time, they are joined by her friend Sandra. But is one of them holding back something that could further their inquiry?

As Agnes begins to pull the loose ends together, danger stares her in the face once again. Together with Alan and Sandra, can she find the killer before another life is lost - and avoid becoming the next victim?

Jumping into this series with established characters made it difficult to really connect to any of them (especially the MC). They just weren’t that inspiring (and in fact were quite boring in most aspects). The mystery itself was somewhat interesting, but developed very slowly, so it was hard to listen to without wandering off every now and then. This was not helped by the narration as the narrator struggled to differentiate the various character voices so it was hard to jump back into the story when I did wander off.

A Simple Mystery

Agnes awaiting for her detective boyfriend Alan to come to the high class restaurant for lunch. Finding a Special Service M15 body results of a execution murder in the ladies room.
Her taxi driver Ben asking if he had time for tea at the hotel where she previously been staying. Seeing a man enter now who’s face seemed familiar. Inquiring at the desk of who, an usual spelling of his last name.
While Alex is puzzling over the wallet contents the corner had given. A man with an unusual spelling of last name. Was he a Special Service M15 agent.
The plot flows as though one is talking with Agnes and the details of what has happened. Alan says stay out of it, but she has the time, curiosity and has helped before. A delightful series and one always enjoys knowing what Agnes is doing beside her love of Alan and shopping. Narration by De Oprah Balm added to the story, enjoyed and well done. The premise of this story is quite interesting, A wealthy lady, Agnes, in a relationship with a senior detective in the police in the Tyneside area. A dead body in the ladies room in of a restaurant is the catalyst for everything that follows, again interesting and quite promising.

Unfortunately the whole story was spoiled by the way that Agnes withheld important information from the police, namely her partner Alan. No normal upright citizen would keep things from the police, and especially someone who lives with a senior police officer, it is an offence that she could be jailed for.

There were other silly mistakes, for example it refers to 'detectives' being sent to the crime scene, the correct term is that police officers were sent.

On the other hand I thought that the characters were well written and interesting, and the way that the area around the river Tyne was described was well done.

I realise that this is a light mystery, but there has to be some degree of realism, and I just couldn't believe in this story, which is a shame because some parts of it are very good. I also felt that it could do with some editing, I think that it was at least 30 minutes too long and some parts could be pared back to make it more focussed.

A bit disappointing
