Writing poems and keeping journals since childhood, Jewel has been searching for truth and meaning, turning to her words to record, to discover and to reflect.

In A Night Without Armor, her first collection of poetry, Jewel explores the fire of first love, the fading of passion, the giving of trust, the lessons of betrayal and the healing of intimacy.

She delves into matters of the home, the comfort of family, the beauty of Alaska, and the dislocation of divorce.

And then there are the images of the road, the people, the bars, the planes, places exotic and mundane, loneliness and friendship.

Frank and honest, serious and suddenly playful, A Night Without Armor is a talented artist's intimate portrait of what makes us uniquely human.

Why does it say it’s narrated by Jewel? This is not Jewel reading this. I have two other books narrated by her. This sounds nothing like her.

Great poems! But Jewel is not the narrator

Any additional comments?

I purchased the hard copy of this book some years ago and enjoyed it. Her poems of Alaska reminded me of my boyhood home in Northern Idaho.

The audio recording was especially enjoyable because is was read by the author. Not only did I get to hear the poems as she intended them to be read but she has a pleasant voice.

My only disappointment is that the introduction and afterward were not included. The introduction was especially important in that it introduced her work and told how the book came about in the first place.

Good But Incomplete

I love all of the poems in this book. But that’s because I find them relatable and also comforting. I used to have this audiobook on cassette tape and I would listen to it every night with my headphones until I fell asleep. That was 20 years ago and I still enjoy it now.

My favorite book of poetry ever!

When Jewel expresses her feelings through her words whether it be a song or poetry her authenticity as a person just shines through. I have read her past 3 books & each one has left me feeling that I've grown spiritually & peacefully.

Beautifully Read & Written
