The usual suspects, including Lord Emsworth and his prize pig, the Empress, line up at Blandings Castle for a Wodehousian caper that sees members of the upper-classes getting hot and bothered over a nude painting they all want to get their hands on. This is wit at its very finest, read by one of our superlative actors, who reads Wodehouse with the requisite style and panache.©2006 CSA Telltapes Ltd. (P)2006 CSA Telltapes Ltd. This is another good Wodehouse story. Some readers might get tired of Wodehouse's use of the same plot devices over an over, and this would be a fair criticism. There is very often a case of mistaken identity and someone trying to steal something in order to avoid some embarrassment. And yet the characters are always good, there is always a decent amount of Wodehouse's dry wit, and a good human touch. Martin Jarvis is a great reader who adds a special dramatic touch to the characters and events. So all in all, great entertainment value. And this is, after all, what Wodehouse is generally about.

Very Good

Thoroughly enjoyed Martin Jarvis’s rendition of this amusing Wodehouse. His voices are absolutely superb! I could not listen without a smile on my face every time i turned it on ( during commutes). Just hearing the pompous ass voice of Dunstable and the imperious Connie made me laugh out loud. I shall now listen to anything Jarvis has done. I will listen to this particular Wodehouse again in future, as well! Thank you for some top shelf entertainment which can only be described as fine ART, it is so expertly and
classically delivered.

If you have never read or listened to PG Wodehouse, do not start with this humorless interpretation. I love Galahad and Blandings stories, but I don’t even recognize the characters here. Moreover, Wodehouse’s airy and effervescent language sinks under the dead weight of the reader’s leaden, albeit clearly enunciated, delivery.
