Ann Tatlock's first novel, A Room of My Own, charmed readers with its inspirational tale of childhood during the depression. Now, in A Place Called Morning, this popular author offers a moving story of an older woman's spiritual sorrow.

Mae Demaray is a cheerful widow who delights in helping others and spending time with her young grandson, Sammy. She would do anything for the lively little boy. But when Sammy suffers a fatal accident at her house, all joy and security flee from Mae's life. Mae's family urges her to rely on God's mercy and love, but Mae cannot forgive herself. Instead, Mae chooses a path that will lead her to question all she believes.

Filled with poignant struggles, A Place Called Morning follows Mae in her journey toward new beginnings and renewed faith. Narrator Barbara Caruso's warm voice conveys the full range of emotions that dwell in Mae's heart.

The first few minutes of A Place Called Morning so affected me that I almost had to turn it off and stop listening . . . I thought, Can I really listen to a book like this? Can I bear it? Where can it go from here? Nowhere good, for sure . . . but I was wrong . . . so wrong . . . as a grandmother, the gut wrenching pain and sorrow I felt at the beginning of the story made me physically sick . . . and I thought, why on earth would anyone write a book like this? But I kept listening . . . and God cracked the shell of my own fear . . . Ann Tatlock is a brilliant, experienced writer . . . the story of Mae and her precious grandson, Sammy who suffered a fatal accident at Mae's house, is many layered, the depths of which touched me in unexpected ways. It is a multi-generational tale of love, faith, healing and forgiveness . . . and I'm sure glad I didn't miss it.

I listened to this book whilst on holiday and found it a good, easy to 'read' story. If you want something that keeps moving, doesn't lose you with heavy detail and yet deals with realistic emotions of people like you and me, then I think you'll enjoy listening to this book.

Easy to Listen to and yet thought provoking.
