Mildred Lehman is hiding a terrible secret, one that only her family and the amish healers of Berlin Ohio know about. Reticent, because of her wounds, Mildred retreats behind her work and the shawl that covers her scarred face. Henry is the most sought after bachelor in the Berlin Amish community. A handsome, well-liked man, vanity is his biggest problem. If only he could find a woman who is his equal. When he meets Mildred he is enamored of her savvy business acumen her, sweet nature and undisputed skill in the womanly crafts, but he cannot understand her reluctance to further their friendship.

When a well-meaning friend intervenes, in hopes of bringing Mildred out of her shell, a heart-breaking incident occurs, leaving Henry aghast and in shock, and Mildred unbearably wounded.

Can Mildred dig deep within herself and trust God to heal her life even in the face of rejection? Can Henry find a way into Mildred’s heart, now that he has shattered it?
