The uniqueness of this book is the essays and activities that include both serious and farcical writings about Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. A travelogue that compares Reichenbach Falls and Trummelbach Falls for Professor Moriarty's demise and notes from a visit to Trinity College at Oxford to view Monsignor Knox's writings and entries in the Gryphon Club Book provide the listener with engaging insights into Sherlock Holmes' world of scholarship.

An excellent collection of essays, all different and all captivating for those of us who are endlessly fascinated by Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson.

Dr Alvarez delighted me with his deep knowledge of canon and the way in which he extract clues from it to get a better understanding of the characters and their world. The essays can be read in any order, in one sit or in small bites, and whichever way you choose it will absolutely absorv you.

This is a recommended read for any Sherlockian.

I enjoyed Marino Alvarez’s book “A Professor Reflects on Sherlock Holmes” very much. He is truly an authority on the subject and that came through clearly in the stories and essays. I read a lot of Holmes stories but I am by no means an expert, and a learned a lot in this book. The narration was also great. I highly recommend this book for anyone with an interest in the Holmes genre.

Entertaining and educational!
