Mixing Mystery and Romance in a Fizzy 1930s Cocktail!
A dazzling wedding. A grand estate. A murder no one saw coming.
Henrietta and Clive Howard are finally tying the knot—but family tensions and clashing expectations threaten to upend their plans. As the long-awaited day arrives, love is in the air—but so are complications. Elsie's budding romance with Stanley is tested by the arrival of the dashing Lieutenant Harrison Barnes-Smith and Henrietta's vivacious friend Rose—a situation that grows increasingly dark and confused as time goes on.
Clive and Henrietta begin their honeymoon at Castle Linley, Clive's ancestral home in England, where Henrietta must adjust to a host of new relations—including the brooding Wallace Howard, heir to the estate. When a local man is found murdered in the nearby village, Wallace falls under suspicion, and Clive is reluctantly drawn into the investigation.
Together, Clive and Henrietta must navigate crumbling traditions, family secrets, and disturbing news from home—all while trying to prove Wallace's innocence. But as they dig deeper into the case, they uncover truths that could shake the Linley legacy to its core.
Can Clive and Henrietta find the real killer and clear Wallace's name—without destroying the estate's future?
"Henrietta and Clive are a sexy, endearing, and downright fun pair of sleuths."—Library Journal (starred review)
"The mix of sleuthing and aristocratic life pairs well with Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness series."—Booklist
"A story full of family secrets, twisted plots, and a striking English setting, A Promise Given is the perfect novel for fans of Sherlock Holmes."—Brit + Co.

Tuck into some scones and clotted cream and enjoy the jazz age, mystery, and a dynamic duo of crime solvers! Nick and Nora, move over!
Michelle Cox is an excellent author and Jane Entwistle does a great job of narrating the series. I love, love, love every second of these books and cannot get enough! Worth the Audible credits, or Kindle cost -- every penny! And no, I wasn't put up to saying this by anyone! Just can't get enough of this extraordinary series!
Brilliant!

The moment that we’ve all been waiting for is upon us. Our two love birds are finally getting married and they are taking a trip, as their honeymoon, to the old country. After the transatlantic passage, they arrive at their family’s estate in the United Kingdom, but there awaits an unpleasant surprise. A trusted family member is accused of a heinous crime and both Henrietta and Clive must unravel the mystery.
This is the third audiobook that I listen to in as much as many months from this series and I can say with hand on heart that I absolutely adore these characters and care for their well-being. Written beautifully and with care, the Henrietta and Inspector Howard series is getting better and better with every new installment. I can’t wait to step back into mid 1930s Chicago sometime next month and find out how some of my all-time favorite characters are doing, especially after the twist ending this book delivered.
Award-winning narrator and series veteran, the talented Jane Entwistle reprieves her role as the go-to voice for historical romance with a touch of mystery. She delivers another excellent performance, infusing the story with emotion and bringing all the characters to life with passion. I can’t think of anyone better suited to perform these cozy mysteries.
With fall making way for winter, A Promise Given could be the best listening choice for those long nights when you just want to forget about the moody weather and about this pandemic that has turned our world upside down.
