DCI Jack Logan is back!

When washed-up 80s rock legend Johnny Freestone is found dead in a cave off Scotland's North Coast 500 tourist route, it looks like a tragic accident–another celebrity lost to a reckless lifestyle.

But Police Scotland detective–and secret Freestone fan–Jack Logan isn’t convinced that the star's death was an accident. As Logan delves into Johnny's final days, he uncovers a trail of bitter rivalries, broken promises, and a comeback tour that wasn’t quite what it seemed.

With the Highlands’ rugged backdrop as the stage, Logan must unravel a web of secrets and lies that entangles everyone from music studios to old flames, and find out who wanted the self-styled 'voice of a generation' silenced for good.

Somewhere between a rock and a hard place, the truth waits to be unearthed...

A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE is the 21st book in the multi-million selling DCI Jack Logan series, and the perfect jumping on point for new audiences wanting to find out what all the fuss is about.

it had been a while since I'd listened to a DCI Jack Logan novels, by authir JD KIRK. I'd been through quite a few other novels on AUDIBLE. When I first heard the opening of Rock and a Harplace, and it's narration by ANGUS KING, it felt like coming home again, as I Slipped comfortably in to the familiar voices of the beloved characters. Kirk plus King brought home the sausages!! Most welcomed were the moments of "Tyler hunor", bringing laughter, even from my husband overhearing a few scenes. Kirk's descriptions of the Highland's background and people, Logan's haunting nightmares, and even Taghet's goofy tongue protruding from his mouth were spot on, drawing the listener in to the developing story line. I realized how much I'd missed diving in to a KIRK-KING presentation. I would never have identified the killer from the many potential suspects Kirk revealed for the reader. He had me fooled almost to the end. Kirk's portrayal of human frailty and the common nature of our mistakes as a theme in this novel hit home. I loved this addition of the DCI JACK LOGAN series. Thanks to both author and narrator for providing an opportunity to get lost in the characters and the story. I really needed that at this time in my life!!

I LOVED THUS BOOK AND THE NARRATMION

I think I’d have enjoyed this book better if it was a 10 hour listen rather than 11 hours. A full hour of Jack’s misgivings, doubts, and fears could have been cut, and the point would have still been obvious.

Other than that, it was a great story, with great narration.

Worth a Listen

LOVE JD KIRK!!

Love Kirk’s incredible way with words…I typically rewind to hear again (and write down) some of his phrasing. A rare talent nowadays, this wry subtlety.

And Angus King? Beyond superb (adore his “Tyler”!) I taught AP English for 40 years…also coached the “Forensics” team to many state championships. Back then, that word referred to public speaking/performing of poetry, prose, dramatic interpretation, etc.
That’s why these books bring me such joy. (Oh yeah: my maiden name is Erskine—a Scottish clan! So this makes it a trifecta of reasons I’m thrilled Kirk—can’t remember his real name—has written so many Logan books!)

Love it…let me count the ways!
