Ever since her husband died and left her in debt equal to the gross national product of Uzbekistan, magazine crafts editor and reluctant amateur sleuth Anastasia Pollack has stumbled across one dead body after another—but always in work-related settings.

When a killer targets the elderly nasty neighbor who lives across the street from her, murder strikes too close to home. Couple that with a series of unsettling events days before Halloween, and Anastasia begins to wonder if someone is sending her a deadly message.

Quirky characters abound in this series, and will not disappoint the listener. From the parrot, to Anastasia's mother-in-law from Hell, to the inspector, and more. Anastasia's love interest, Zach, is a fab, rock solid character. Bravo!

After her mother's remarriage Anastasia thought she would have less stress in her life. Unfortunately, that does not occur. Her sister-in-law is killed, her neighbor is killed, and her mother and her new husband are constantly in her home creating more financial stress on Anastasia.

I feel for Anastasia. She is trying to do her best in raising her sons & paying down the debt louse-of-a-spouse has left her. Her mother and mother-in-law are of NO help to her. They are constantly fighting, not helping in the upkeep of the home, nor helping in any other way. These older women are just selfish demanding women.

The only high spot in her life is her renter/boyfriend. I find reading about this dysfunctional family an escape from reality and am enjoying every minute of it. I can only hope, Anastasia will find more peace and financial stability in future books. I can’t wait for the next one.

Of course she finds out who the killer is but won’t spoil the read.

I was entertained by the 5th book of the "An Anastasia Pollack Crafting Mystery" series. After her mother's remarriage Anastasia thought she would have less stress in her life, only to stumble upon the body of her murdered neighbor. Anastasia couldn't help trying to solve the case as more unfortunate events kept happening in the neighborhood. I appreciated the moments of humor in the story. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Alexandra Bitton-Bailey's narration kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
