It takes courage to let go.

Strange things happen when Ian Frost is sent to live with his Uncle Gary, who resides beside a lake in Maine. His uncle hides a secret. He takes mysterious solo canoe trips at night. He collects canoes, paddles, and weapons. Rumors fly around town about bad things Uncle Gary did in Vietnam and the secrets hidden in his enormous barn. When Ian finds himself trapped in his uncle’s violent past, he must face his own demons if he hopes to escape.

I enjoyed this audiobook very much. I was entertained and moved by this tale of a thirteen-year-old boy who went to live with his uncle after the tragic death of his family. I thought that this was a story which could be enjoyed by all ages in spite of the age of the protagonist. I liked the use of magic and time travel to show the reader what happened in Ian's uncle's past. I appreciated the characters who were personable and realistic. I liked the underlying themes of the tale. I enjoyed Josh Heathcock's narration as his performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
