Free will and the small bit of education that one ends up with in this life through personal interest and study are really the only things that we control in this world. Access to both can be taken of course if one chooses bad actions, so the smart move is to spend the limited time that we have on this Earth focusing on personal growth, happiness, and self-expression. Murder is wrong, and sadly, the truth of the world is stranger and much harsher than fiction. We live in a world that is safer than at any other period prior in human history while simultaneously being bombarded with more social and legacy media than ever before. This can make people happy, and it’s entertaining but has radicalized so many. I don’t blame the media, but people must be aware that every individual has become a citizen journalist over the last fifteen years in combination with all Americans having a First Amendment right to freedom of speech. Filter bubbles are a natural result of using social media, but we must constantly cognitively challenge ourselves, based on new information, innovation, and logic, as every person is in flux. Liberal arts colleges across the US are important as they allow for alternative ways of thinking, exposure to new ideas and cultures, and interaction with people who are also in the formative years of their lives. This is priceless for both individuals and society; education isn’t about money. We are all brothers and sisters, and the fact that North Carolina and many states throughout our great nation don’t require individuals to help people in danger legally is one of many problems that we must resolve. Humans are connected as we are social animals, and our great country can’t be run as a business as the private sector is about making money with little regard for human rights, the environment, and the future of our country. I believe that healthy public discourse is needed and am glad that conservatives have voices being heard, but there has never been a greater time in our history for powerful, educated liberal speakers to join in the public debate!
