Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital capacity building are rapidly emerging as transformative forces in global development. In the context of Nigeria—a nation with immense human capital, a growing tech-savvy youth population, and diverse socio-economic challenges—leveraging AI and digital tools offers a strategic pathway toward achieving sustainable development. As the world aligns around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), the role of technology in driving inclusive growth, efficient governance, and improved public services becomes increasingly vital.

Nigeria faces pressing developmental issues, including poverty, healthcare gaps, inadequate education, climate vulnerability, and weak institutional infrastructure. Addressing these challenges requires innovative, data-driven approaches that only AI and digital capacity can provide. When properly harnessed, AI can support evidence-based policymaking, optimize resource distribution, improve access to quality education and healthcare, and foster economic diversification. However, realizing this potential depends heavily on national digital capacity—the skills, infrastructure, and institutions needed to effectively adopt and govern these technologies.
