Fresh and Engaging

Full disclosure: as an early reviewer, I read a pre-publication version of the 1st chapter. The author and I are related by marriage.

My first time getting to advance past the first chapter was more than a year after my first exposure to Acteon 9. Although the early version had some rough edges, I could tell the author had a very engaging opening to his story, and it was difficult to wait for the story to be released.

I was not disappointed. There were at least a dozen points in the story where I thought I could tell where it was going next, and found myself not only wrong, but also more pleased with the outcome than anything I would have predicted. It was especially funny when the main character anticipatedsomd of my expectations, and wondered to himself about some of the same possibilities I had considered.

Although the story ends pointed at an almost stereotypical pathway for YA fiction (no spoilers, but you'll see what I mean when you read it), because Mr. Peterson has already proven himself well able to defy expectations, I'm sure the next book will be anything but predictable.

I should also praise the excellent voice acting of Mr. Matsumoto. At the beginning of the story I thought his voice was a bit too soft, but as the story progressed, I found that his tone was perfect for the personality of the main character, and helps to convey his thoughtful and wise soul, as well as his liveliness and light sense of humor. There are several characters in the story that have accents that differ from the main characters', and I found myself appreciating the audio performance even more for his superb versatility in voice acting their differences. For this alone, I would recommend everyone's first exposure to Acteon 9 be through the audio book.

Now if I can only convince the author to hurry and release the rest of the series. I can hardly wait to see what Hunter chooses next.

Very intriguing

I was very impressed how the story evolved. The story kept me wanting to know more. Unfortunately, so did the ending. I hope there is a second book to add to this so we can know if Hunter has learned all he needs to know to help his friends in slavery.

Unique breath of fresh air

This book had an incredible planned of sci-fi with touches of what felt like fantasy. As a connoisseur of both I really enjoyed this book. Great humor, great action, overall a great book definitely a must read and can’t wait for the second one.
