The first audiobook in a new action packed YA paranormal series.

Meet Alex Finch - tomboy, techno geek, monster hunter. Reluctant monster hunter.

A school project, an absentminded project partner, and a misplaced backpack all change 16-year-old Alex Finch's life forever. In a single afternoon Alex finds the missing backpack, has a run-in with Sam, the boy she's had a crush on since first grade - and discovers that monsters are real.

That mind-blowing incident throws her life in a completely different direction, uncovering secrets that cost her more than she could ever imagine. And the further she digs, the darker and more dangerous the secrets become.

What else is hiding behind the ordinary facade of her California beach town? Alex is about to find out.

This was a really fun book to read! It seemed to be a young adult story to me.

I like this, it was quick and funny and Alex had a fun sense of humor.

My one narration comment was that the I thought the narrator sounded like a grown up Peppermint Patty from the Peanuts cartoon. Not a bad thing, just interesting.

Fun Story

I paid for this book myself and my opinions are, as always, my own.

I have read many of the complaints in other reviews regarding inconsistencies and the occasional (almost horror movie level) poor decisions, so I won't cover that. I will, instead, tell you why I enjoy this book.

1) Alex - her snark is amusing, and it's nice that she starts to grow beyond her initial defensiveness and social judgments.

2) Alex and her Dad have a great relationship, and there is even a really good heart to heart with her worry-wort mother (who has been kept in the dark).

3) The ditzy popular cheerleader is actually quit nice and not really so ditzy after all. There are the foundations of good friendship here, without any indications that one of them needs to experience some big change for that to be true.

4) No Insta-love. The two main characters have known each other since they were children; and have Liked each other a long time, although circumstances have kept them from any kind of close association.

5) It's fun.

Content Notes, for anyone who might care: There is some mild swearing and mild to moderate violence/injuries including harm to children.

Narration: Ms Burns definitely has a very distinctive voice, so you should listen to the sample. I actually felt that she very much embodied Alex and her emoting, phrasing, and pacing were excellent. My usual 1.25 speed was actually a touch fast.

Great relationships and lots of Snark
