Alexa and Francis were wealthy executives who had everything, except for kids. When he tragically passed away, she gave up hope for being a mother...until she met Vick Miller, a simple family man and a nearly perfect doppelganger of her husband.

She pays him handsomely for his donations to produce a child who resembles her beloved husband. The offers grow more enticing, and Vick’s marriage begins to strain. Alexa wants his genes...or his looks, anyway. She is wealthy, attractive, powerful, and utterly obsessed.

He has no idea she is watching him.

I loved the narration in this thriller. There were some great moments of vocal acting and with a story that's fast-paced and keeps you wondering what will happen next!

📖Alex Six by Vince Taplin

✨”This is it, look what you’ve done to me, peasant! I stand and punch the wall hard enough to knock the number 9 off the top nail. The upside-down 9 now a swinging 6.”

Well, WTF. I am a slow reader, but I flew through this book in a day. I loved the short chapters told from two POVs. At first, I was confused who was talking in the chapters, but quickly discovered instead of putting “Vick” or “Alex” at the beginning of the chapters, the chapters with numbers incorporated into the words were Alexa’s POV (ex: Chapter 6ix, 2wenty 2wo). This book had me laughing out loud and then squirming. I couldn’t put it down. It was witty, dark, fast-paced, thrilling. Sexy, yet creepy. @VinceTaplin you okay, man?

I’ve seen other reviews and like many others, I too, will never look at a bottle of vanilla the same...the brownish yellow-tinged curiosity 🙈 However, I loved the vanilla bottle touches on the book cover.

Also as a Boston fan, I can’t leave out the Larry Bird reference... Taplin turned Larry Bird into a verb
“He smiled again, pulled off his gloves, and Larry Birded them into the nearby trash can.”

If you like Gillian Flynn’s books, then I highly recommend this to you!

Alex is bat shit crazy and I'm here for it! This was a solid psychopath thriller and I enjoyed it. I would have preferred a female narrator for Alex and Vick's wife. (Personal preference.)

This wild ride of a read had the most hatable characters and some real Verity vibes. If you’re looking for a thriller that has you grasping both sides of your face with your eyes wide open, this one is for you.

It is extremely f#%!ed up and snarky and therefore NOT for the faint of heart, but I for sure couldn’t put it down.

What lengths would you go to have a child that looked like your deceased spouse? Well, just ask Alex Livingston and she may tell you to check out your local grocery store.

Alex is hyper fixated on having a child, more so after the death of her husband. On a visit to the grocery store, Alex bumps in to Vick and is shocked to see Vick is a near identical twin to her late husband. In a short amount of time, Alex proposes a generous monetary offer to Vick in exchange for him being her sperm doner. Vick, who is struggling in both his job and in his marriage, and deciding this money could help, accepts Alex’s offer not truly realizing what he just got himself in to.

This story is one of a kind. Vince has this way of making you love and hate his characters: you hate to love them and love to the hate them. To be frank, I can’t decide who is more unlikable between Alex and Vick. They both are battling their own demons and are each motivated by selfish means. I really enjoyed the multiple POVs. While it can be a little repetitive, and took some time to get used to, it’s interesting to see how Alex and Vince each interpret their interactions together.

If you’re looking for an out-of-the-box read, look no further. This psychological thriller is VERY bizarre and yet I couldn’t stop listening (I “read” this on Audible). Those are the kind of books I appreciate where my mind is like “girl, no, you don’t need this” but my heart is like “FINISH IT; WE NEED TO KNOW”. Like the bottle of vanilla #iykyk. (I mean, I’m still gonna buy it because I bake a lot, but I’ll never forget.)

Overall, this was an interesting read and I give it a solid 4 stars. I plan on purchasing the book to re-read mainly because I wasn’t a huge fan of the narrator on Audible. I’m not partial to those who “act” out the story mainly because I’m getting their interpretation of how they see the characters and not my own. Definitely add this to your TBR list for 2021.

The best kind of train wreck!
