If aliens awarded you absolute authority to be King of Earth, what would you do?
Incredibly, Dr. Luke Giavanti has been appointed—by aliens inscrutably orbiting the Moon—to be King of Earth. Previously, he was happily retired to his secluded Rocky Mountain cabin. There, he wanted nothing more than to live out his remaining years in peaceful retreat. Instead, he was inexplicably caught up by the Aliens. They deposited him upon a golden throne inside a palatial sphere orbiting the planet. Having shed the many headaches and duties of astrophysics governmental research he now finds himself responsible for the entire world.
To Luke, his unwanted, ultimate management position is agonizing. Not only is the planet in the hellish grip of runaway global warming, but its societies have fragmented into bitterly warring factions. The surprisingly “ethical” technologically far-advanced aliens offer the means to reverse Earth’s meltdown. But there’s a terrible price to be paid. Luke must provide one billion humans for whatever usage the aliens deem best. Rejuvenated into a young, strong body, Luke is compelled by surging hormones to take reckless action. But, in the end, he’s only supported by a pragmatic nannybot, his precocious great-granddaughter, and a one-eyed dwarf. All else abandon him.
Thus, King Giavanti, virtually alone, faces a horde of opponents (a previous lover, supposed friends, and avowed enemies) who are intent on truncating his rule and taking his throne. To make the crisis even worse, an ancient, cosmic war is rekindling. The conflict endangers the entire solar system via the accessible Jupiter Star Gate. He and prior crewmates (who are stranded on Mars) are the only ones guarding the exceedingly rare and precious organic life of Earth. Luke must somehow navigate the seductive politics of absolute power to moderate brutal planetary exploitation. Only then can he have a shot at preventing the outright erasure of humanity, plus loss of his own soul.
