John Grady Cole is the last bewildered survivor of long generations of Texas ranchers. Finding himself cut off from the only life he has ever wanted, he sets out for Mexico with his friend, Lacey Rawlins.

Befriending a third boy on the way, they find a country beyond their imagining: barren and beautiful, rugged yet cruelly civilised.... A place where dreams are paid for in blood.

Colin McCarthy has a wonderfully economic writing style. Writing only what needs to be read.

Beautifully descriptive.

I really and truly loved this book. Loved the nature, the animals, the love story, the scenery description, absolutely everything.
And an absolute stellar performance from the narrator who just so understood the dialog, knowing when to hurry and when to pause. Highly recommended.

The dialogue stood out to me!

Loved the story, but the volume was so low it was almost impossible to hear sometimes.

Too low

It is like listening to somebody painting and explaining a mural about a specific time period in Mexican history. Some detail, some big brushes and an intriguing story.

The performance is also great but the sound quality can be improved.

Interesting story.
