I really wanted to enjoy it

I read this with my book club and it was a difficult read. The subject matter and way the story was told was disengaging for me and many of the people in our group. I think the idea is good. It mirrors a lot of what is going on today, which can be uncomfortable, but I missed connecting with the characters.
