Synopsis - An Odd Band of Demon Hunters- Book II of The Gods of Being Human series

Some language/swearing.
We encourage you to listen to Book I of The Gods of Being Human series before Book II, An Odd Band of Demon Hunters. Of course, it's not necessary as both adventures entertain immensely!

Maglen, and Dro-Gar, have reached the legendary continent of Olume. Maglen has the responsibility to arrange alliances and future trade agreements on behalf of his Emperor Riklen. That begins with trust. Earning trust, as a human in a land that has no humans, can bring unexpected challenges fraught with pitfalls.

They allied themselves with an odd-looking elf named Ahnjen. Ahnjen assists Maglen in gaining audiences with various rulers and leaders across these vast new lands. In return, the two humans commit to helping Ahnjen rid Olume of demons. A series of amazing adventures ensue.

When Maglen questions his diplomatic skills, he reverts to his brazen instincts. At times, his attempts to solidify relationships are not diplomatic. Is Maglen up to the task as he takes on both his personal and professional challenges? Will he succeed or will the service to his emperor and his homeland overwhelm him? Will the demons become too powerful?

You’ll enjoy getting to know the uniquely eccentric individual members of this Odd Band of Demon Hunters. Be entertained by their sometimes humorous and sometimes spine-chilling encounters. They face odd and powerful creatures plus dwarves, elves, and giants across the continent of Olume.

This book moved along better than the first book. It still waxed philosophical and dragged on at points. The characters and world portrayed are idealistic: too perfect to be believable. The main characters have no flaws. The performance is decent.

Maglen is charged with arranging alliances and future trade agreements for his emperor. However, to do this, he must travel with Dro-Gar to the legendary continent of Olume – home of demons, dwarves, elves, giants, and others but no humans! To build these alliances, trust must be built and the elf they have enlisted to help them succeed likes to cut corners!

The author, Geo Rogers, crafts a thrilling story that keeps the listener engaged and fully immersed from beginning to end. Rogers unfolds the adventure through the use of vivid details and exciting challenges while each character is brought to life and solidified through rich descriptions and dialogue. Each step of the adventure is fraught with danger and excitement. I liked the addition of Ahnjen as his thoughts and actions challenge Maglen to look deep within himself to gauge his own beliefs and actions.

The narrator, Stephen William Hodd, brilliantly portrays each character bringing them vividly to life. He speaks clearly and utilizes unique voices for each character. He provides a consistent and strong voice for each character. His deliberate cadence keeps the narrative moving forward at a strong and steady pace.

This is a rich adventure, that provides excitement and chilling moments of action with unique and entertaining characters. A definite do not miss!

A continuation of The Mists of Olume takes a band of travelers on adventure. While pacing is about the same (slower) the adventure takes you to many fantasy areas in Olume.
