I absolutely loved the story line. The characters were so well defined. My favorite character was the sheriff.

Pleasantly surprised!

In the small town of Rivertown, a southern Appalachian community a miracle of sorts is taking place.  An abandoned child is left with a note by the mother asking that Rev. Gideon and his wife help her newborn daughter survive. Already in Hospice care, Rev. Gideon sees this as a gift from God and a mission.  The parenting paradox begins for Charity Grace and the residents of The Oaks.

Janice R. Hunt, the author, weaves a tale that is captivating and powerful. The power of prayer, faith, and God is prevalent in this tale.  Forgiveness is given with grace, faith is sometimes hard, and hope is always present is carefully woven throughout this story.  The characters are well-developed and rich in personality. Hunt also weaves in an unsolved death that is finally solved and the mystery around the timing of a poisoning and the name of an area in relation to another death. Several storylines flow smoothly throughout this book but are carefully written to keep them easy to follow.

The narrator, Andrew Barnes captures the personality of each character and projects them with his talented voice.  The accents, tones, and inflections are well done! He keeps the story moving forward at a steady pace.

Overall, this is an entertaining and well-done mystery that delves into faith-based folklore and other beliefs. It is a well-balanced and creative story.

Hunt tells an inspiring tale of enduring faith set against a semi-fictional backdrop of Northwest Georgia's Ridge and Valley. Like Faulkner’s Yoknapatawpha County, Hunt’s Harbor Oaks draws the reader into a lived-in world of not-so-distant fiction, fleshed out with vignettes drawn from a life of assisting the elderly, volunteer activism, church ministry, and musical expertise. The local charm of Hunt’s narrative makes good reading for the native Southerner and out-of-towner alike, sure to welcome all in a familiar visit to a soul-searching journey.
