The gospel of Jesus Christ is not about what Jesus can do for your life. It is not even the answer to the question, “How can I be saved?” It is the declaration of a victory. In his coming to earth, his suffering, and his Resurrection, Christ conquered demons, sin, and death. In Arise, O God, author and podcaster Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick introduces us to the spiritual war that Christ won by his victory, how we are caught in that war’s cosmic crossfire, what the true content of the gospel is—and how we are to respond.

This is an exceptional book. The author summaries a number of threads running through scripture in a "concentrated" way, yielding a high ratio of ideas per page. It draws on themes not well known to Protestants outside of academia. While protestant readers will understand some notions discussed in this book differently from the author, it is still well worth reading and reading again. The works of Michael Heiser can serve as a complementary protestant perspective. But one will find more correspondence than disagreement between these authors. Overall, this book is highly recommended.

Beautiful description of what the Gospel actually is and what it means to ‘have Faith’ or ‘believe’

A nice introduction to the Orthodox Christian view of the meaning of the Gospels and how it differs from other branches of Christianity.

Nice intro

There won't be much new to listeners who have been Orthodox a long time, but it does make a very tidy catechism. It neatly explains demons, angels, and our relationship to them in salvation.

The narration is very good. I'll only say this because I'd want to know myself, you can hear Father swallow every time, so that's a little annoying.

Legit

A very thought provoking book on what a gospel is, and what the gospel of Christ meant to Christians 2000 years ago.

Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick reads it really well, and is entertaining to listen to. I highly recommend this to any Christian.

I’m a huge fan of the Lord of Spirits podcast, and this met my expectations.
