When Sia Mason lost her twin sister Mia in a car accident, she thought the grief would define the rest of her life. Years later, the truth crashes into her world with shattering force: Mia isn’t gone. She has been remade as a demon, bound to Hell itself.

Determined to save her sister’s soul, Sia steps into a hidden world of dragons, paladins, and magi. Ancient orders wage silent wars, and the balance between Heaven and Hell is always on the edge of collapse. Alongside her best friend Ella, a girl with draconic blood, and Tobias, Ella’s steadfast brother sworn as a Paladin, Sia discovers that her own bloodline carries secrets older and more dangerous than she ever imagined.

Guided by Eric, a sharp-tongued mage, and shadowed by Marcus, a dragon with motives as mysterious as his power, Sia must learn to wield magic that belongs as much to dreams as to the waking world. Every step closer to saving Mia draws her deeper into the designs of Hell, and she begins to wonder if her sister can truly be redeemed.

A story of family, sacrifice, and the fire of destiny, Awakening begins an epic saga where love dares to challenge the powers of Heaven and Hell themselves.

I'd like to preface this by saying I am no wordsmith and can really explain how I felt about this book with some pretty basic vocabulary. If you're a fan of fantasy paired with an emotional story I'd recommend this book. The author is skilled at putting you in the characters' headspaces. From the feeling of temperature, emotion, thoughts, to the outright description of the places around them and how they feel about what's happening to them. It feels very human and grounded at the points where it counts. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

The emotional core of this story is what pulled me in right away. Sia’s grief over losing her twin feels real and raw, and that foundation gives weight to everything that follows. When the revelation about Mia hits, the fantasy elements do not feel detached from reality. They feel like an extension of that heartbreak and hope.

The world building is ambitious, weaving together dragons, paladins, magi, and the tension between Heaven and Hell in a way that feels expansive without being confusing. There is a clear sense that this is only the beginning of something much larger. Each character brings a different energy to the story, from loyal friendship to guarded mystery, and those dynamics add warmth to the epic scale.

What stood out most is the theme of love refusing to surrender. At its heart, this is a story about a sister who will not accept fate without a fight. That emotional through line keeps the high stakes grounded.

As a first installment, it lays strong groundwork and leaves plenty of intrigue for what is still to come. It feels like the opening chapter of a saga that intends to burn brightly.

I thought this was going to be a regular story about a girl missing her sister, but it turned into a huge supernatural adventure. The idea that a regular accident was actually a cover for a demon transformation is a really cool twist. It's pretty heartbreaking to hear how Sia deals with the truth while trying to understand this secret world of myths. It kept me interested the whole time because I just wanted to know if the sisters would ever be okay.
