இரண்டாயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாகத் தமிழ் மண்ணில் இராமகதை மரபு தழைத்தோங்கி வந்துள்ளது. சங்க காலத் தொகை நூல்களில் துவங்கி, சங்கம் மருவிய காலம், காப்பிய காலம், பக்தி இலக்கிய காலம் என்று ஒவ்வொரு கால கட்டங்களிலும் வெவ்வேறு படைப்பாளிகள் இராமனையும் இராம கதையையும் பல்வேறு விதங்களிலும் படம் பிடித்துள்ளனர்.
