In the town of Sleepy Hollow, the legend is law. The Headless Horseman is its most cherished fear, a ghost story that fuels its tourism and haunts its nights. But when the mutilated remains of livestock are found on a remote farm, the townsfolk discover a new, more primal terror has invaded their valley.

A beast of impossible size and strength now stalks the forests—a creature of rage and muscle known only in whispers and blurry photographs. As the town's ancient phantom and the invading monster wage a brutal turf war, folklorist Julian Crane uncovers a terrifying truth: the two legends are not just fighting each other. They're hunting together.

The Horseman has become the spotter, his spectral flames flushing prey from the woods. The beast has become the muscle, its raw power executing the kill. Trapped between a ghost and a monster, the residents of Sleepy Hollow must fight for survival against a predatory pact forged in the darkest corners of American folklore.

A long time ago in a Hollow far far away… I was transformed into my 10 year old self and gleefully gobsmacked as each chapter grew the suspense deeper and darker like the old woods surrounding the village. Ethan Blackwood creates for us a mysterious & frightening version of this supernatural tale with its mythic foes. There is no demeaning comedy in this soberly scary October epic. I’ve been waiting to “read” this tale since I was that 10 year old boy - and it’s totally been worth the wait. I enjoyed this so much I’m going to remember this for later this year. It’d be a great Halloween listen (narration is still stilted and very A I).
