My four stars for the story is based on my recollections of the books which I loved. I’m through a third of the book and I think that I will have to return it. I was so excited to see these books on Audible and I was just as disappointed when I listened.

Awful narration

Did not get many chapters in before giving up. So hard to focus on story due to poor reading, but want to find out what happens! Have added to hard copy book list.

Reader ruined story.

I wanted to give this a chance. I was willing to forgive the uneven performance. But the background music is Simply. Too. Annoying. Thank you, Mr. Brown, for keeping the books in print but please get a professional narrator or leave alone.

What disappointed you about Banking on Death?

Unfortunately, the narration/production quality is simply very poor. I am a big Emma Lathen fan and was very happy to see the first Thatcher book available, but this appears to be some kind of home production that substantially detracts from the book. This is the first Audible book I've ever been unable to make it through solely due to the narration.

Unfortunately very disappointing

Totally unlistenable. Obviously an amateur production. Why is Audible including an audio book of such poor quality on their website? A Google search reveals that the narrator is also involved in controversy concerning the posthumous use of the author’s name. The original mysteries in this series by Emma Lathen are delightful and most certainly do not deserve this bastardization as audio books. I would like my money back!
