What does it take to ruin a perfectly good summer? Four cherry bombs. When twelve-year-old Trey and his best friend Eddy play a prank on Officer Mack, the resulting chain of events rocks the small town of Bay's End. Today, Trey Franklin is a man haunted by his past. Tormented by that one tragic, fateful summer, Trey searches for catharsis the only way he knows how - by writing. A tale of love and loss, bittersweet memories, and the depths of human evil. Welcome to Bay's End.

I am a big fan of coming of age type stories. Especially ones with ample amounts of drama and suspense woven into the story. This one certainly qualifies. Not horror really, but horrific elements for sure. Well fleshed out characters and more than a few curves to keep you thinking. Nice.
I have been wanting to “read” this one for a long time and am a big fan of Lorn’s work, but for whatever reason kept putting this one off. With the announcement of the upcoming publication of “All Things Lead to The End”, a loose series of novels set in part or wholly inside Bay's End's city limits, which includes the awesome “The Sound of Broken Ribs”, I had to read it. Right. Freaking. Now.
So I did. And it was awesome. A Solid 4.5 Stars. I shouldn’t have waited so long. If you haven’t read it, then you shouldn’t wait either. Edward Lorn is good, man. Real good. I have truly enjoyed everything that I have read by him. Some more than others sure, but I know one thing - The dude can tell one hell of a story.
Edward Lorn is good, man. Real good.
