Witnessing a bar scuffle was not what Navajo paralegal Naomi Manymules expected, but the chaos in Sage Landing was just getting started. A famous Hollywood producer has brought in truckloads of outsiders to make his next blockbuster. As if her movie-dazzled kids and her criminal dog aren’t problems enough, Naomi worries that her boss, attorney Grant Carson, won’t take on enough legal work to keep the office going. Things look up when a lucrative Hollywood lawsuit comes their way, but familiar mobsters are part of the deal. Then, the movie’s gorgeous leading man goes missing, and Naomi and Carson barge into the investigation as they defend a mutual friend. Meanwhile, one of Naomi’s hottest old flames shows up in town, and so does Carson’s ex-wife. It looks like a hell of a summer.

narrator a female David Chandler like performance that is more about telling the story than about performing. very good!

unique characters

The characters seemed like real people involved in family life as well as their sleuthing. I hope there will be another book in this series before too much longer. I keep going back to this book as well as Coyote Waits, though normally I don’t find books interesting enough to listen more than once

The book was so fresh and realistic, so unlike the formula of most amateur detective books these days

Sometimes you just want a light mystery with great characters. This is all of that and the story is tight, yet amusing. The teenagers add a deeper layer, to Naomi, a very smart Navajo.

Smart and Funny

It kept me interested the whole time. Not to much action but mostly subtle mind games.
