What the lady wants, the lady gets. And then some....

Lady India Lindley is accustomed to having her own way in everything, and marriage is no exception. Determined to elope, she boards a ship bound for Italy with her intended. But when Ottoman pirates capture the vessel, Lady India finds herself a slave to the mysterious and very commanding Caynan Reis, ruler of the Barbary state of El Sinut. He makes it quite clear that she is no longer in charge - and that's his first mistake....

Caynan is intrigued by the headstrong heiress whose passions and will are as strong as his own. Clearly this is not a treasure he can steal but one he must earn. Very well. Showing the lady how accommodating he can be will be pure pleasure. But what starts as an erotic game of sensual surrender soon yields to a love beyond their wildest fantasies, one that could destroy them both....

Contains mature themes.

I love romance novels and am currently back on a historical romance kick. However, I don’t love this novel.

There was too much misogny and subservience. I know that can be par for the course with this genre but this was a bit much.

Spoiler***

And how India just forgives her parents….really?!!! It is unbelievable how India is written to be a strong character and then just folds throughout the book.

Not my cup of tea

I love the Bertrice Small audiobooks, but sometimes the women's voicing the men is just a bit awkward. This one is great with all the different accents, though!

Great story, narration for the men not my favorite

This is such a great story, so involved and detailed that ending fell so, so short and less worthy than the story. I was hoping that it would be continued in another book --- the search for the child and the rocky relationship between India and her James Lesley, but it was wrapped up in a less than flattering bundle that was not worthy of the book itself. Justine Eyre was absolutely wonderful in all her voices, female and male, and all her accents, but I strongly feel the ending was such a let down. Pity, it could have been so much more.

This was too great a book for the abrupt ending

I’ll admit it took me a minute to get into this story and I almost quit it, but I’m glad I didn’t. I’m very glad I picked it back up again, it loved the characters

Good story

Really loved India's story wish the ending wasn't so rushed it just felt abrupt but loved how she tied it together in the end And that she did not leave it as India hating her stepfather
