A compelling WW2 romance novel from an exciting new voice in historical fiction.

When everything you hold dear is torn apart by war, can love put you back together again? It's 1943, and the Second World War is raging. Ruby Mottram works for her local newspaper, the Bartonford Herald, typing up adverts and obituaries, whilst dreaming of a more exciting life. Between her shifts as an ARP warden and caring for her ailing father, the chance for escape doesn't come often to Devon.

Meanwhile, in America's Deep South, Sam Archer is hatching a plan to raise enough money to get his mother and sister away from his abusive stepfather. Using falsified documents to hide his age, he enlists with the US Army.

Two chance encounters bring Ruby and Sam together from opposite sides of the Atlantic, giving them the chance of love, hope and freedom from their troubled lives. But fate, in the shape of D-Day and Omaha Beach, has other ideas.

When their very lives are at risk, will their promise to wait for one another be what keeps them alive?

The story was very good but the narration was poor. It was irritating when the narrator forgot and suddenly did Sam’s voice with a British accent, then switch back. The voices of some characters , especially Vera, sounded silly and old.

Beautiful story but poor narration.

The narration was terrific. This is a nice, easy read (or listen). The backdrop of wwii is always such an incredible time in history. This story is well written, not as dark as it could’ve been, and just a really nice story about finding love and about what it means to be a family

Really lovely love story.

I thought the narrators did an excellent job. The story was excellent and I am so happy there was a HEA. I felt as if I was there in Europe during WW2. There are some few ends that weren’t tied but left more to the imagination… but that’s just my opinion. Otherwise I am satisfied with the ending and with the story overall.

Lovely WW2 Romance
