A medieval Scottish blacksmith and a millennial from Detroit walk into a bar…

By the age of six, Fiona could sink a bank shot.

By eight, she could mix a perfect Manhattan.

By twenty-two, she had a business degree and a concrete plant to save her grandfather’s failing bar.

Then she was pushed through a time-portal.

Now Fiona is stuck in fourteenth-century Scotland with no way home. There’s a good chance time-soldiers are after her. And Henry, the guy she’s shacked up with, is a grumpy son-of-a-bitch who doesn’t get her at all.

He is hot, though.

And brave.

And most definitely the love of her life.

If the two of them can stop bickering long enough, Fiona just might be able to have it all—the tavern of her dreams and the first man who can actually keep up with her. That is, if they can survive the battles, murder, and mayhem of the Middle Ages and the time-soldiers who have a hand in it all.

This is a way cool time travel story paced by detailed 14th century history and 21st century wit. Sarah Charles gives us an unvarnished look at the harsh day-to-day life of medieval Scotland through the contemporary and irreverent perspective of a young woman from Detroit, an unwilling time traveler. The clash of sensibilities runs the gamut from eye opening to raucous humor, woven through a journey of dangers, missteps and self-discovery.
Much of the dialogue in Beneath the Destiny Stone calls for a Scottish brogue and the reader nails it. She effortlessly weaves in and out of historical dialect and the rye observations of our modern-day heroine.
This is a great listen.

...of ruining my romance novel with conflict and character development, but I forgive her. Just when I thought there would be a loose end, she tied it up nicely leaving no questions unanswered. The stubborn determination of the main character Fiona empowered me in my real life. If you get the audiobook version you can take Fiona everywhere with you—and get 'ish done!

I loved this book! The story had just enough romance and intrigue to keep you engaged without overdoing it. If you like period piece romance, you will enjoy this. It’s a bit of Outlander meets quantum leap set in the 1300’s. Highly recommend. I can’t wait for Sarah Charles’ next release.

Very good (listen) 😉

I read the book but as soon as I found out that it was coming out as an audiobook, I had to immerse myself in it again. Love story between Henry and Fiona was as funny as it was emotional and action packed. I love every minute of it, and would reread it again and again.

Love Story
