This whimsical tale centers on the life and troubles of charismatic, thirteen-year old, Berlin Stacey. Berlin’s dilemma begins shortly after moving across the country with her overbearing, hypochondriac mother, Agnes; and her pesky, younger brother, Baxter. Deemed a leper on her first day of middle school, Berlin’s journey towards self-acceptance is a laborious one. In one week’s time, Berlin faints in class, becomes the obsession of a bothersome boy named Todd, and makes enemies with a highly adored band of beauties known as the Splendor Slender Sisters. Berlin’s adventure includes hidden riches, neighborly witches, romantic attractions, and heroic actions. Ultimately, Berlin is slow to learn a universal secret – to choose the way one thinks and acts is fabulousness to the max!
