New York Times bestselling author J. F. Freedman delivers a catch-your-breath thriller about an unsuspecting birdwatcher who becomes a witness to a murder.
Cast out of academia due to an amorous indiscretion, Fritz Tullisretreats to his family's estate in southern Maryland. While photographing a rare whooping crane who's flown off course, he notices a plane land on his neighbor 's airstrip. Three men get off the plane, and Fritz sees one man shoot another. The victim is loaded onto the plane, erasing all evidence of a murder. Shocked by his sightings, Fritz searches for answers and finds that the owner of the airstrip is a highly placed official at the State Department with a long history of connections to the CIA, and that the missing dead man was a foreign diplomat. Now, Fritz is more determined than ever to uncover what may be a deadly government conspiracy. Teaming up with a Washington attorney, a local police detective, his own mother, and a sexy ornithologist, Fritz launches into a harrowing investigation of one murder that leads to many more-perhaps his own.

A good read

This was such a refreshing, different mystery,. It had none of the usual cliched, urban settings and scenes. It was very interesting and I couldn't stop listening once I started. I've stayed up until almost 2am because I had to hear the end. About 3/4 of the way through I figured out that one character wasn't exactly what he/she was portrayed to be but I was VERY wrong about their actual identity! Gregory Harrison did a superb job of narration--not too flat or too emotional. This is a great listen.

wonderfully original

The story is OK, not blow-you-away different or captivating but keeps your interest. The production, however, is really good! Definitely worth a listen...

Excellent production of good suspense novel

I listen to lots of mysteries and I get tired of being able to predict the story evolution. This had a good pace, good story, and some interesting twists and turns. Woth the try.

Nice change of pace for a mystery

Of the 1000+ audio books I've listened to over the past 8 years, this is in the top 10. Gregory Harrison's first person narration for Fritz Tullis was perfect in capturing the character in this original and unpredictable story. Truly suspenseful.

Still my favorite
