When a recently widowed woman returns to her home town, will resuming a love affair with a high-school sweetheart bring back her joy?

Shattered by the loss of her husband, Maggie struggled each day to put her grief behind her— to face life again and to be there for her teenaged daughter. When she returned to her Wisconsin hometown, she never expected to feel a spark of longing for her old high school sweetheart. Eric's marriage to a career-driven woman had left him childless and unhappy. Seeing Maggie again filled him with hope.

The memory of Maggie and Eric' s young love blossoms into an affair that could shake both of their lives and challenge everything they believed about loving each other. Can they follow a dream from the past? Or had they missed the chance of a lifetime?

I read this book many years ago but my old eyes won’t let me read like I used to so I thought I’d listen. This is an abridged version but it never stated that in the description. Disappointing. And the reader needs to take a drink of water... she sounds like she has terrible dry mouth.

I loved the story

One of my top three Spencer books. The only reason it’s not rated higher is because this copy is abridged!
Maggie moves back home to Door County, Wisconsin, after her husband dies and her daughter has gone off to college. Things heat up quickly with her married high school sweetheart. The situation is further complicated when he asks his wife for a divorce. Maggie’s wonderful father is a rock when her mother and daughter shut her out.
The book is so much richer and believable in the unabridged version - this is the skipping stone copy.
I’m disappointed that only an abridged audio copy is available. I will always prefer an unabridged copy hands down. Period. I think there’s a special reserved spot in that hot place for those philistines and tools who belittle and chop up books.

My friends and I read this MANY years ago when it first came out. Although we lived in various parts of the country, we converged on Door County and Egg Harbor for a “girls” weekend. That was the ULTIMATE reader’s club experience. We loved the book then and I have read its tattered covers many times since and have purchased copies for others. Saw it on Audible and purchased it and listened yet another time. I was not disappointed and neither will you be if you listen to this wonderful novel.

Memorable - all time favorite

I have read this book several times over the years, and was excited when I saw it on Audible. Unfortunately, the book was shortened, leaving out so many details. I finished listening, merely to see how much was left out. I would not recommend it. This was the first Audible book I have ever had this experience with.

Disappointed in this Rendition
