“I didn’t reply. I couldn’t. Seeing this man’s naked private parts had not rendered me speechless but watching him lick ice cream off his finger had.” (June Tucker)

June Tucker doesn’t understand people. Numbers, data, and statistics? Those make sense. People? Not so much. In a town of Friday night fighters and moonshine-swilling line dancers, she’s the odd duck. And that suits her just fine. But her sister and friends are pairing off, and the change is unsettling.

George “GT” Thompson was at the top of his game — one of the best receivers in football. But a career-ending injury sidelined him for good. Now he’s hoping to find relief in the healing waters of this tiny West Virginia town. And maybe an idea of what life has in store for him next.

He doesn’t expect the no-nonsense girl at the hot spring, telling him he’s not supposed to be there. And pointing out his sizeable…equipment.

George is fascinated by June, with her head full of statistics and blunt honesty. He appreciates her in a way most others don’t. And when the local missing persons case takes a shocking turn, he’s by Scooby-June’s side as she digs for the truth.

He was her fantasy receiver. Now he’s her real-life boyfriend. But as their relationship heats up, June worries she’s not capable of the kind of intimacy he needs. He's convinced his campaign to get her out of her own head — to stop thinking and feel — will work. But his own crisis could drive them further apart.

Fantastic continuation of the Bootleg Springs series. I am swooning over June and George. June is so smart and quirky, it’s hard to imagine a hero to match her. George was perfection! He is kind, confident, considerate, smart, and puts his Heroine at the center of his actions. It took him very little time to understand June, and easily adapted his approach to meet her needs. It makes me swoon right out of my seat. Making her happy in all ways is important to him. I love how enamored he is with June. As I women, sometimes all I want is to be understood. How I behave and what I say to be validated. George Thompson understands June Tucker better than any Hero I have ever read. She is someone who doesn’t fit in, and he gets her. It’s so beautiful and makes me so happy.

June’s character is fantastic. It’s great to see the quirky character as the Heroine. I love her growth, and that it isn’t personal growth so much as social growth. Her support from George created a confidence to grow. Also, experiencing love helped her understand and connect with others outside of her romantic relationship. It was a lack of understanding that made her feel on the outside of situations, and it was fun to see her figure this out, yet stay true to herself.

This book contains a lot of progress on the Callie Kendall case. Unfortunately along with that means more questions than answers. The development of this mystery, the town, and all the characters is so good! I loved this one so much!!

The audio continues to be fantastic in this series. It amazes me how both Stephen Dexter and Natalie Duke can create so many different voices for each character. Natalie’s June voice and cadence added so much to her character, and Stephen’s soft tones were perfection for George.

Quirky meets perfection!

oh my good night where do I even begin!!! June and her straight forward attitude is golden. I adore and I mean ADORE June. I loved everything about her Character. It broke my heart hearing someone her truths. Knowing that past experiences shaped her to be doubtful of her self and to make her believe she was robotic.
G.T. was perfect for her. From the very first time they met. aside from the people in her life, he made her feel normal with her even realizing it. He was litterally a big ol softy. All I can say is the lake scene. HILARIOUS!!
This couple was perfect! I loved them so much.

Natalie did a great job as June. Stephen Dexter also did well, do not get me wrong. I love Stephen Dexter. I think though for GT it would have been nice to have a more gruff sort of voice... but still I very much enjoyed both the narrators-5 stars 🌟
