By USA Today Bestselling Author Lyn Cote a story of survival by a woman ahead of her time and an unlikely hero forced by history into a marriage of convenience~

A proud Mexican lady. An American cowboy. When war sweeps across Texas, their only chance is to stand together—or lose everything.

1836 Texas—Mariana Sandoval, mistress of Rancho Sandoval, is determined to prove that a woman can manage land and cattle as capably as any man. But when renegade Comanches abduct her, she’s saved by Scully, the rugged top hand from the neighboring Quinn ranch. Reluctantly, she accepts his protection—though his taciturn presence tests her patience as much as it feeds her courage.

When long-lost relatives arrive with unsettling demands and whispers of a hidden vendetta swirl, Mariana’s hard-won independence faces fresh threats. Then Mexican General Santa Anna crosses the Rio Grande, and the Texas Revolution explodes around them.

Bound in an unexpected marriage of convenience, the proud Mexican lady and the American cowboy must fight side by side to survive the storm of war—and to discover whether love itself can bridge the gulf between their worlds.

I liked best the distinct cultures Spanish American Mexican and Indian. Of course the violence stands out but character development and growth in their lives in dealing with hardships was extremely realistic and heartening.I disliked all the mispronounced Spanish. It actually was comical for Mexicans to sound like beginners in the language!
